The Challenge
JJ Connors Oval is home to a range of local sporting clubs, including the Jindabyne Bushpigs rugby union club. The old lighting system was no longer meeting the needs of athletes and spectators, especially during the busy winter months when daylight is limited.
Community groups and council identified the need for a modern, energy-efficient lighting solution that could handle both training and competition standards.
The Solution
Hextra was engaged to manage the installation of state-of-the-art LED floodlights. Our team worked closely with Snowy Monaro Regional Council, local sporting clubs, and project partners to ensure the new lighting would meet both current needs and future growth.

Community Impact
The new lights were officially launched on Thursday, 13 March 2025, with local officials, club representatives, and community members in attendance. According to Minister Kristy McBain, the project was a great example of collaboration between government, local business, and the community to deliver real benefits.
The project has had a positive impact on the Bushpigs rugby union club, Jindabyne Touch Football Association and other local clubs, noting that the improved lighting will allow for night games, extended training hours, and a safer environment for all.
As reported by the Monaro Post, the upgraded oval is now “fit for the future”—ready to host more events and support the next generation of local athletes.
